Pat Leister

I was fortunate to grow up in beautiful northern New Mexico where I explored canyons in Los Alamos and camped and fished in the Jemez Mountains. My New Mexico landscapes are painted outdoors in watercolor. I believe painting en plein air has improved my painting more than any class or workshop I have ever taken.  My paintings look fresher and have a quality not seen in my studio work.

Painting outdoors has its challenges. There’s the wind, the heat, the bugs to deal with and the light changes much too quickly! The Plein Air Friends group enjoys painting outdoors and understands the difficulties. Everyone is supportive, gives good advice and encouragement.  And there’s always humor and laughter.  I’m grateful to be included in wonderful group of people!
